Boot Black Goat & Horsehair Finishing Brush by Kumano-fude
The Boot Black finishing brush is one of the most coveted pieces amongst shoe aficionados. Arguably the best finishing brush in the world, please read some more...
The brush is handmade in Hiroshima using a Japanese traditional technique now trademarked as "Kumano-fude”. The Boot Black finishing brush is made with a blend of goat hair and horsehair. Very thin and soft downy goat hair is carefully selected. For the horsehair, only the hairs at the tip of the tail are chosen as they are thin but also quite firm.
It takes about 30 different processes to produce a single brush with 90% of the work done meticulously by hand. Because of its softness, this brush can be used for daily care on shoes with a mirror finish. Otherwise, with a harder brush like the 100% horsehair brush, you risk marring the glossy finish.
Whilst excellent products are essential, knowing how to use them is like the other blade on a pair of scissors. Our masterclass videos on shoe care will teach you the various requisite skills involved. Watch this space, too, for further product details and enlightening factory tours.
